601 Lakeside Ave E Cleveland, OH 44114 (Directions)

Cleveland City Hall, Room 514 (or watch on YouTube)

The Cleveland Landmarks Commission is responsible for determining whether buildings, sites or historic districts are eligible for designation as landmarks. Cleveland City Council approves the designations.

The commission follows established criteria listed in the Landmarks Ordinance and uses the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation to review proposed changes.

Through the issuance of Certificates of Appropriateness the commission reviews building and demolition permits for Designated Cleveland Landmarks and Districts.

The commission also offers feedback on concept plans, but it does not formally approve or disapprove them at that stage.

Local Design Review Committees act as advisory committees to the Landmarks Commission within designated historic districts.

NOTE: This meeting could run as long as 3 hours, and because the commission has been holding hybrid meetings – with some people at City Hall and others joining via WebEx – you may have a better time hearing and viewing all meeting participants in person.

Commission members:

  • Michele Anderson
  • Mark Duluk
  • Chris Loeser
  • Joyce Pan Huang, Director of City Planning
  • Allan Dreyer
  • Robert S. Strickland, Vice Chair
  • Raymond Tarasuck, Jr.
  • Julie Trott, Chair
  • Deborah A. Gray, Ward 4 Council Member
  • Michael Sanbury
  • Regennia Williams

Motion was made to approve as presented. Onto the next item
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 5/16
The next item on the agenda is Case 24-041: East Boulevard Historic District 867 East Boulevard Roof Replacement. It sounds like they're keeping all the led glass. The goal here is to do the house exactly the same way the garage is; as pictured.
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 6/16
It certainly sounded like some confusion on the window type, and the presenter/presentation. The commission had trouble following along. The commission recommended closer photos, and this was tabled until additional info is reschedule a hearing. Motion was made, and it was tabled
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 7/16
The next item on the agenda is Case 24-042: Clifton/West Boulevard Historic District 3592 West Boulevard Windows and Siding Installation. Amanda Sanchioni and Aaron Petz spoke on this matter. Aaron is the artist behind the mural.
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 8/16
Shown is the concept and a few renderings of how it'll be conceived. Surface prep has to be in line with the paint. Roll was called & this motion passed unanimously.
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 9/16
This concludes CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS. Onto CONCEPT PLANS; 1st here is Case 24-044: Tremont Historic District Midnight Art Forum Complex – 1277 Kenilworth Avenue Temporary Structural Art Installation. David Biro was the presenter.
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 10/16
It's about 3 full size tennis courts side by side in size. Also shown are 3D renderings. This is a 14 day installation. Donna Grigonis from Tremont West spoke and she liked the ambition. She also said if there's a way to put this up for a little longer, she'd be happy!
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 11/16
The power would be streamed by 2 runs of power, the box is in the middle; The 10 gauge extension cord would on the ground via plastic cabelling passthrough. Questions were raised about random people plugging in something & blasting the area.
Nick Ventura @Nick_Ventura11 12/16
David Boro responded with saying they'd just get law enforcement involved.
Moving onto Case 24-045: Ohio City Historic District The Red Shed – West 32nd Street Renovation. Brad Nosan saidby zoning it to local retail; they're envisioning an all day cafe, with the park there.
