The Administration, Operations, and Budget Committee approved:

  • Agreement with Change Starts with Community for renovation and expansion of the Shiloh Cares food shelter (1201 West Broadway Ave) for $600,000, with the State of Minnesota contributing $1 million and the Cargill Foundation contributing $150,000.
  • Agreement with Cities United to deliver the county’s first-ever three-day Safe Communities Summit in May to bring leaders from 45 cities in Hennepin County to create an actionable framework on crime prevention.

The Public Works Committee approved:

  • Agreement with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture to accept a $10 million grant for tree removal and replacement for lower-income residents. The grant will cover about 4,500 trees, and residents will not be expected to pay contractor companies.
  • Authorization to submit a grant application under USDOT’s Bridge Investment Program for the reconditioning of the Hennepin Avenue Bridges.

The Housing and Redevelopment Authority:

  • Conducted a public hearing related to $37 million multifamily housing revenue bonds for the Olson Court Park Plaza (505, 507, 525, 527, 560 Humboldt Ave N and 1315 Olson Memorial Highway). No one spoke.
  • Approved amendment to an agreement with Rebuilding Together Minnesota to provide 24 accessibility ramps, extending terms to align with the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency impact fund award.
  • Authorized HRA to continue as an approved lender for the MHFA Fix Up Loan program with another five year extension to 2029.
